FRIAR WADDON FARM (1UK16026)
This free range egg farm is a small family business run by ourselves, Martin and Sheena Mayo, with lots of help from Jenny who works for us during the week, Jane (who is currently on maternity leave) and our children David and Rachel who help out at weekends. We have 8000 hens who graze, peck, dust bathe and scratch in a 22 acre pasture which they share with our small flock of polled dorset sheep. This year a young deer has been a regular visitor in the chicken field and has become quite tame! We have planted trees over part of the field to provide natural shelter for the hens. They particularly enjoy these on hot sunny days. A hens favourite day would be calm but not too bright. They love coming out around the field particularly in the early evenings when the sun is low and the day's work done!
