New Free Range Lion Coded Legislations

Added 22-Jan-2009

In the last year the demand for Free Range Eggs has increased dramatically. This will only be hieghtened by the closure of all battery units in 2012. Therefore it is of great importance that new legislations are brought in to benefit those porducing Free Range Lion Coded Eggs currently.

This new legislation brought in by the Lion Code will see an increse in external stocking density's from 1,000 birds per hectare to 2,000 birds per hectare. This will enable current producers to increase flock numbers on their exsisting land without the high cost of buying more land to keep up with the demand for Free Range Eggs.

As an industry it also ensures that the increasing demand is met by British Lion quality free range eggs.

The key point is that this enables us to go forward and as the demand continues to increase we will be able to meet that demand with British Lion Quality free range eggs. Producers will be able to have more birds in the same free range area - subject to planning permission, of course - and as far as bird welfare is concerned we do not believe there will be any problems. Producers in this country exercise a range of management skills to ensure the welfare of their birds and they will continue to do so.
