Blackacre hits the airwaves!

Blackacre hits the airwaves!

Yesterday I went down to Heart FM in Taunton for a tour of the studios, to pick a winner for our colouring competition we ran during the Summer for Have a Heart, and to be interviewed about our work for the charity. My debut on the airwaves will be on the Heart website soon and I will put a link up as soon as it goes live!

I had a guided tour from breakfast host Ian - of 'Ian and Laura' fame - and it was great fun, I also enjoyed the interview as I got to explain why we felt working with a charity that helps children in Westcountry communities was so important to our family and Blackacre. We will be announcing the winner of the colouring competition here on my blog so make sure you keep an eye out for that.

Back to eggs! - In our family making any type of eggs comes as second nature of course, but the one I know people struggle with is poached. So here is a clip of 'How to make perfect poached eggs' and it must be good as its had over 180,000 views - now that's a lot of eggs!

Vicky on the big screen

Vicky on the big screen

Well it might be quite a small screen actually; a small screen on youtube; but nevertheless my sister Vicky's highest ascent during her Peru trek has been caught on camera, complete with Rocky soundtrack! Click here to take a look.

All the memories from Vicky's 10 day charity hike in Peru for 'have a heart' came flooding back. Not only is there a clip of her finishing the ascent, there is also one of her bus almost sliding off one of the mountain roads to a sheer drop! During torrential snow fall the bus had to be evacuated whilst the crew tried to stabilise the wheels - click here to see all the action, accompanied by the music from the Italian job!

Farmers Weekly Awards - results are in!

As I mentioned last week my sister Vicky and I went up to London for the Farmers Weekly Awards 2009, as we were one of the three finalists in the Poultry Farmer of the Year category. Unfortunately we didn't win but we are still proud we made it into the top three Poultry Farmers in the country. We may not have won but we still had a great night with all the other producers. 'Signature' from last years Britain's Got Talent were on as entertainment, which certainly lifted spirits! If you can't remember 'Signature' click here!

I tried to get a photo of the show but they were moving so quickly that I couldn't get a clear shot; it wasn't just a few too many drowning my sorrows I promise!

We're off to the Farmers Weekly Awards 2009

We're off to the Farmers Weekly Awards 2009

Earlier in the year we were nominated for the Poultry Farmer of the Year category of the Farmers Weekly Awards and made it through to the top three in the country! Today my sister and I are off for a bit of a change of scenery. We're leaving the wellies, hens and Blackacre Farm behind and heading for the bright lights of London town!

We are going up for the dinner and award ceremony at the The Grosvenor Hotel, a far cry from what we're used to down in the Westcountry as you can see if you click here. We're up against a couple of the big players in the industry but we hope that the way we do things at Blackacre is enough to set us apart! Wish us luck.........
